A TWENTY-ONE YEARS OLD HISTORYPast editions
In 2007 Rally di Sardegna will celebrate the 21^ edition. A very important event, in fact it will be for the second time valuable for the World Championship raid T.T.
The first edition was held in 1984 on a zigzag route from Olbia to Cagliari passing through Alghero, Cala Gonone, Villasimius, Chia, crossing the whole Sardinia passing through the inaccessible paths through the mountains. The winner was Andrea Balestrieri, riding Aprilia.
The idea was by the brothers Guido and Renato Zocchi, from Gallarate. Followers of motorbike they found the precious cooperation of the Moto Club Gonnesa, which had already cooperated with them organising motorbikes meetings on the motocross field of Gonnesa.
That year Renato Zocchi was coming back from Parigi Dakar. His idea was to move to Europe the adventure of the great African rally and only Sardinia could offer the right countryside. For some editions it was also called Rally d'Italia and for several editions started from the peninsula adding to the motorbikes also the off road cars.
Next, the organisation passed from the Moto Club Gonnesa to the Moto Club Sardegna by Gian Domenico Nieddu who took part to the race riding a Gilera 125 in 1985.
From that time the Rally has changed and has grown.
In the will of the organisation there is first of all Sardinia, not only as a race territory but also as a country to discover and to bring out.
